These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Trader Sum (the "App"), a trading journal application. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to use the App. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement.
Trader Sum lets you log and review your own trading activity, and includes supporting tools: a currency converter, a futures position-size calculator, and a simplified tax estimate. The App maintains separate Live and Demo journals — Demo mode is for practice/backtesting and never mixes with your Live trade history. All data you enter is stored locally on your device — the App does not operate a server that stores your trade data.
The App can also optionally connect to a supported broker (currently Tradovate, with additional brokers planned), let you dictate a trade note by voice instead of typing it, and generate a shareable image summarizing an individual trade for sharing outside the App. See Sections 5–7 below for how these work.
Trader Sum is a personal record-keeping and estimation tool. Nothing in the App — including the win-rate statistics, profit factor, expectancy, equity curve, position-size calculator, or Taxes tab — constitutes financial, investment, legal, or tax advice. The Taxes tab produces a simplified estimate only; it does not account for wash sales, Section 1256 treatment, your other income, or your specific filing situation. Always confirm tax and investment decisions with a qualified professional before acting on them.
Account credentials and all trade data you enter are stored locally in your device's app storage. There is no central account system on our servers. To prevent an accidental app deletion from wiping out your work, your login state and both your Live and Demo journals are also mirrored into your device's Keychain, which — unlike ordinary app storage — iOS does not erase when you uninstall the App; reinstalling restores everything automatically. This backup is removed only if you erase all content and settings on your device, or if you contact us to have it cleared (see Section 16). You should still use the App's CSV export features to keep your own independent backups, especially before switching to a new device.
If you choose to connect a supported broker account, your broker credentials or API keys are stored only in your device's Keychain and are sent directly from your device to that broker's own servers to authenticate and retrieve your fills — they are never sent to us or stored on any server we operate. Live and Demo modes keep entirely separate broker connections, even for the same broker.
Trader Sum is not a broker, is not affiliated with or endorsed by any broker it connects to, and is not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or security of any broker's own service. Your use of a connected broker's platform remains subject to that broker's own terms of service and privacy policy. If a broker's API is unavailable or changes without notice, syncing may be delayed or interrupted; you remain responsible for verifying your trade records against your broker's own statements.
The App can transcribe a trade note as you speak it, using Apple's on-device Speech framework. Transcription itself never leaves your device. If you choose to also enter your own Anthropic API key in Settings, the App will additionally send the raw transcript of that one note to Anthropic's API — using your key, billed to your own Anthropic account — to clean up punctuation and remove filler words before it lands in your note; this cleanup step is entirely optional and off unless you add a key. Trader Sum is not responsible for Anthropic's handling of that request, which is governed by Anthropic's own terms and privacy policy, or for the cost of API usage on your account.
The App can generate an image summarizing a single trade (instrument, result, and profit/loss) entirely on your device, for you to share through your device's own share sheet if you choose. We have no visibility into, and no control over, where you choose to send or post an image you generate and share this way.
Certain features may require a paid subscription, billed and processed through Apple's App Store in accordance with Apple's own terms. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and are managed through your Apple ID account settings, not within the App. Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policies — Trader Sum does not process payments or issue refunds directly.
The Monthly plan may be offered with a free trial period (currently 7 days), as shown at the time of purchase. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your Apple ID will automatically be charged the subscription price shown on the purchase screen, and the subscription will continue to renew until canceled. You can cancel anytime before the trial ends, at no charge, through your Apple ID account settings.
You agree not to misuse the App, including attempting to reverse-engineer it beyond what applicable law permits, interfere with its operation, or use it for any unlawful purpose.
The App may use third-party services to function, including Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In (both optional, for login), a third-party currency exchange-rate provider, a supported broker's own API (currently Tradovate) if you choose to connect one, and Anthropic's API if you choose to add your own key for voice-note cleanup. Your use of those features is also subject to those providers' own terms and privacy practices.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Trader Sum does not guarantee the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that calculations (including tax and position-size estimates), broker-synced data, or voice transcription/cleanup will be accurate for your specific circumstances.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trader Sum and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or trading losses, arising from your use of or inability to use the App — including any broker connection or voice-dictation feature — even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or discontinue the App or any feature (including any individual broker connection) at any time.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and, where applicable to you as a resident, the applicable federal and provincial laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you are a Canadian resident, nothing in these Terms limits any consumer-protection rights available to you under Canadian law that cannot be waived by agreement.
